Overview

RIMOND, together with Martinelli & Benoni, delivered the Olympic and Paralympic Village in Predazzo, part of the infrastructure system for Milano Cortina 2026. The project, developed for the Autonomous Province of Trento and based on the architectural concept of Studio BBS, involved the construction of 192 residential units within an active military site at the Guardia di Finanza Alpine School. During the Games, the village hosted international delegations and is now used as permanent accommodation for the School’s cadets.

Construction Approach

The intervention combined new construction with the reorganization of the surrounding area, integrating additional structures within an existing operational military compound.
Set in a complex Alpine environment, the project faced significant constraints, including limited accessibility, demanding logistics, and restricted construction windows due to weather conditions. To address these challenges, RIMOND implemented a fast-track construction strategy, leveraging extensive off-site fabrication and direct execution. The structural system was based on XLAM cross-laminated timber panels, enabling rapid assembly while ensuring high structural performance and reduced environmental impact. Each residential unit was equipped with a fully prefabricated bathroom pod, produced off-site and installed on-site with minimal adjustments. This approach significantly reduced construction time and minimized coordination risks between trades.
